6th Annual Blue Angel Open - 4/1/06
Beginners, advanced players, and pros...men, women, and children...all showed up in record numbers to play disc golf at the 6th Annual Blue Angel Open at Blue Angel Naval Recreation Park in Pensacola, Florida. All had high expectations of the course and the competition and no one in sight was dissapointed.
The original 18 hole course, Palmetto, had some great modifications and was in great shape, but the real treat was the new 18 hole setup known as "the Oaks". The Oaks offers up much longer distances and brings endurance into play like no other course in the Panhandle.

I hope you were out to enjoy it, but if not make sure to put it on your calendar for next year...in the meantime, enjoy the pictures of this year' event.
"I survived the Rich Allen Disc Golf Weekend..."
...says disc golfer, Josiah Raymer, 30, Pensacola, Florida. "It was the toughest thing I've done since bootcamp...oh wait, I was never at bootcamp. But seriously..." and then he sort of trailed off after that. Must have been a hint of delirium after averaging three new courses a day and over a thousand miles travelled, not to mention the late nights and early mornings. The Rich Allen Program is not for the weak.
Here's the list of courses hit during the Rich "the Savage" Allen Disc Golf Weekend in the St. Petersburg area of central Florida. Some even have associated photo galleries...

FL Panhandle Disc Golf Offerings: Getting More Regular
This, until recently, disc golf starved community is beginning to feast on the sport. Local disc golfers have been setting regular weekly scheduled rounds at local courses to make it easier for beginners and seasoned disc-chuckers and everyone in between to get together.
Each of our three area disc golf courses has a regular day and style of game play; which pretty well matches each course's unique feel and personality.
Starting in the East with the Cove @ NLA, Saturday's at 5:00PM you'll find locals getting together for friendly, relaxed (yet sometimes spirited) round of 18 holes...9 holes from each set of teepads [Amatuer and Professional]. Always a good time at the BagTag Rounds @ the Cove!!
Moving South to Gulf Breeze's own Sunset @ Shorline Park is a round with a different style of play that the locals have been eagerly anticipating ...RANDOM DRAW DOUBLES!! Starting sharpely at 4:30PM on Wednesday night random pairings of doubles teeing off for a round of 18 unique holes.
Finally...right before you hit the Florida / Alabama State Line hit a left into Blue Angel Park Naval Recreation Area on Sunday morning for some consistent rounds for skins against many of the panhandles best disc golfers. You must have a military ID, be sponsored by someone who does, or belong to the Emerald Coast Disc Golf Club.
This doesn't mean that there aren't more tosses, tourneys, and clinics. For a more complete listing of what disc golfing is going on and when visit the Emerald Coast Disc Golf Club's online forum.
